Day 1 – 2 – Ashgabat

Program image from Turkmenistan & Uzbekistan

Departure according to flight schedule to Ashgabat on day 1. After arrival at the airport, Calaio Viajes y Turismo's local representative will wait for you for the transfer to the hotel where you can check in directly. On day 2 of your trip you will have a car with driver available to explore the city at your own pace. You can determine the program in consultation with the driver. The construction of the Central Asian Railway in 1881-1885 gave a powerful impetus to the development of the city of Ashgabat. About 14 years ago, under the leadership of the now deceased President Turkmenbashi, the redevelopment of the city began. The result is a spacious city where the street scene is dominated by buildings made entirely of marble, wide avenues and impressive architecture. The luxurious apartments, beautiful government buildings and modern sports complexes pale into insignificance when you see the presidential palace. A nice walk through the Park of Independence with the Neutrality Arch. Like Switzerland, Turkmenistan is a neutral country. Turkmenistan wouldn't be Turkmenistan if there wasn't excess. The park has no fewer than 150 fountains, including the highest cascading fountain in the world. The Ertogrul Ghazi mosque is located in the working-class district, built after the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. The National Historical and Ethnographic Museum of Turkmenistan introduces you to Archaeological excavations. The Tolkuchka bazaar is known as the most lively and colorful market for miles around. Just outside the city you will find the archaeological site of the former capital Nissa. This city was founded around 250 BC as the capital of the Parthian Empire. Under Parthian rule, the territory was protected by 43 defensive towers and called Mitridatkert, in reference to the Parthian king Mithridates. The fortress of Nissa may have served as a mausoleum. The Hellenistic influence is clearly visible in the architecture of the fortress, the sculptures as well as in the other decorations found on the site. The temple hall where the remains of a stone altar were found indicates the Zoroastrianism that was practiced here. Overnight in Ashgabat.
